A 130-kilometre coastal trail through the UNESCO High Coast, shelters perched above the sea.
The Höga Kusten Leden runs 130 kilometres along the UNESCO High Coast, alternating between clifftop panoramas and descents to red-painted fishing villages at sea level. Wooden shelters appear every ten to fifteen kilometres — a roof, a firepit, and a view of the Bothnian Sea. No booking required. The trail does the planning.
The Höga Kusten Leden (High Coast Trail) runs from Hornöberget in the north to Örnsköldsvik in the south, following the UNESCO-listed High Coast of the Bothnian Sea. The trail traverses terrain shaped by post-glacial rebound — raised beaches, sea caves, and cliffs that were underwater thousands of years ago. Wooden shelters with firepits are spaced along the route, free to use on a first-come basis. The path alternates between forest ridges, exposed clifftops, and descents to fishing villages where resupply is possible. Most hikers complete the trail in five to seven days.
Solo
The shelter system removes the need for a tent partner, and the trail's linear design means every day brings different terrain. Solo on the Höga Kusten Leden is solitude with infrastructure.
Friends
Shelter evenings with a fire, fishing village resupply stops, and shared cliff-edge views — the trail gives groups a daily rhythm that bonds through landscape rather than logistics.
