The economy is entirely shrimp-based — dried shrimp hangs from every eave, shrimp soup is served at every meal, and the annual Shrimp Festival is the social event of the year. Outside flood season, the streets are walkable and the island is explored in 20 minutes — but the culture, the food, and the mythology reward a full day.
