Morocco
Forty-five kasbahs around an oasis where the road turns to piste toward the Sahara.
Forty-five kasbahs around one oasis — the concentration is extraordinary, each fortress-home rising from the palmery in a slightly different shade of ochre, their towers and crenellations silhouetted against the Anti-Atlas beyond. N'Kob sits where the paved road begins to lose its argument with the desert, the last comfortable stop before the piste tracks take over. The village has the quiet confidence of a place that has been here for centuries and expects to be here for centuries more.
N'Kob is an oasis village in the Drâa-Tafilalet region, situated at the junction of the road to the Draa Valley and the piste toward Jebel Saghro. The village is notable for its exceptional density of kasbahs — approximately 45 fortified residences cluster around the palmery, making it one of the densest concentrations of traditional architecture in southern Morocco. Several kasbahs have been converted to guesthouses, offering accommodation within centuries-old walls. N'Kob serves as a trailhead for treks into Jebel Saghro and the surrounding Anti-Atlas.
Solo
A quiet oasis with kasbah guesthouses and the Saghro massif on the doorstep. N'Kob is the kind of place solo travellers stumble upon and remember years later.
Couple
Sleeping in a kasbah surrounded by 44 others, with nothing to do but walk the palmery, eat well, and watch the light change on the mountains. N'Kob is a romantic discovery.
