Overwater stilts above coral so clear you watch parrotfish from your bedroom through the glass floor.
The bungalow sits on stilts above the reef. Through the glass panels in the floor, you watch parrotfish graze on coral, clownfish shuttle between anemones, and the occasional reef shark patrol the shallows — all from your bed. The water is so clear the distinction between swimming and flying dissolves. Behind the resort, Seram's jungled mountains rise sheer and dark. There is nothing else here. No town, no road, no phone signal. Ora Beach exists in a register of simplicity that most tropical resorts can only pretend to offer.
Ora Beach is a remote stretch of coastline on the northern shore of Seram Island, Maluku province. The Ora Beach Resort — the only accommodation — offers overwater bungalows with glass floor panels positioned above shallow reef, providing direct observation of marine life from the rooms. The surrounding Sawai Bay features excellent visibility (often 20m+), healthy coral coverage, and abundant reef fish. Mangrove systems along the bay support diverse birdlife. The resort sits at the edge of Manusela National Park, Seram's primary rainforest reserve, which protects the Salmon-crested cockatoo (Cacatua moluccensis) and other Maluku endemics. Access is via Ambon (flights from Jakarta or Makassar), then a combination of ferry or speedboat to northern Seram and overland transfer — a journey of 5-7 hours total. The isolation is the point: no ATMs, limited electricity, and minimal phone signal.
