Skiing under the midnight sun on the Norwegian border, where the season ends in June.
Riksgränsen sits on the Norwegian border at a latitude where the ski season extends into June and the last runs happen under the midnight sun. The lifts climb above the treeline into terrain that drops on one side to Sweden and on the other to the Norwegian fjords. The overnight train from Stockholm pulls directly to the slopes.
Riksgränsen is Europe's most northerly ski resort, located on the Swedish-Norwegian border 200 kilometres above the Arctic Circle. The season runs from late February to midsummer, with the final weeks offering the surreal experience of skiing in twenty-four-hour daylight. Off-piste skiing reaches the Norwegian side, where runs descend toward the Ofoten fjords. Heli-skiing is available from the resort, accessing untouched peaks in the surrounding mountain range. The Malmbanan railway connects Riksgränsen to Narvik in Norway and Kiruna in Sweden — the overnight sleeper train from Stockholm delivers skiers directly to the mountain.
