Liechtenstein
A mountain restaurant at 1,400 metres reachable only on foot — shared benches, fondue, sunset.
Berggasthaus Sücka sits on an alpine terrace at 1,400 metres, reachable only on foot. The walk up from Gaflei takes about an hour through meadow and forest. By the time you arrive, the fondue smells reach you before the building comes into view.
Sücka is one of Liechtenstein's mountain Gasthäuser — a traditional inn at altitude that serves food to hikers who have earned their meal by walking. The terrace faces west across the Rhine valley, filling with golden light on summer evenings as the sun drops behind the Swiss peaks. The menu is alpine and simple: fondue, barley soup with smoked speck, Käsknöpfle. The cheese comes from alpine dairies within walking distance. The restaurant operates seasonally, typically from late May to October, and is a natural stopping point on the trail network connecting Gaflei, the Fürstensteig ridge, and the Drei Schwestern peaks.
Solo
Arriving alone at Sücka after the walk up is one of those quiet, earned pleasures. You share a bench, order fondue, and watch the valley fill with shadow.

Groups arrive from different trails and converge at Sücka. The communal bench seating, shared fondue pots, and post-hike Weissbier make it a natural gathering point.
